On Monday, February 18, 2020, Inter Miami CF announced the signing of midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro as the Club’s second Designated Player. The Mexican international adds both quality and experience to the inaugural roster.

“We’re very happy to have a player of Rodolfo’s quality join the Club,” said Paul McDonough, Inter Miami CF’s COO & Sporting Director. “He is a creative midfielder who strengthens our roster and elevates everyone’s quality on the field.”

Head Coach Diego Alonso, who coached Pizarro at C.F. Pachuca from 2014 until 2016 and at C.F. Monterrey from 2018 to 2019, also shared his delight at adding the creative midfielder to the squad. Together the pair won the 2016 Liga MX Clausura and 2019 Concacaf Champions League titles.

“First of all, he adds quality. He’s a qualified soccer player who’s been successful at every team he’s played for, three teams from Mexico, and he won titles at each of them,” stated the Uruguayan coach.  “In addition to the quality he has, it is important to highlight his competitive spirit. He’ll bring that feeling and that ambition of wanting to win everything to the team.”

Pizarro has settled with ease into his new team, fitting in perfectly with the style of play that Alonso is implementing.

“Our style of play is simple for him, as we’ve previously coached him at two other teams. Logically, he’ll also have to adapt to his teammates, the league, and the country, But, in general, we’re happy with him and he’s happy to be here,” said Alonso.

In addition, when asked about his expectations now that Pizarro is under his tutelage once again, Alonso was clear.

“We want to win again. To dream and to win. Those are our aspirations.”
