Major League Soccer announced on March 12 that it had suspended play for 30 days as it continues to assess the impact of COVID-19 with its medical task force and public health officials. Originally, Inter Miami was scheduled to make its historic home debut today, March 14, against the LA Galaxy.
“We look with optimism that we can continue building, here in South Florida, anticipation for our team and our home opener at a date to be determined,” said Inter Miami CF Managing Owner Jorge Mas at a press conference on Thursday. “There was a tremendous amount of excitement in our community and having a full house here on Saturday. That does not change, it will just be on a different day and date.”
In a message to fans, team captain Luis Robles said, “We were really excited to play in front of our amazing fans this Saturday in our historic home opener, but the situation at hand is more important than soccer and we support our Club as well as Major League Soccer’s decision to postpone until further notice because the health and safety is the most important thing.”
“We will continue to prepare so that when the time comes, we can give you great joys. I send a hug to everyone and wish good health,” added Rodolfo Pizarro.
The Club’s next two home matches – March 21 against the New York Red Bulls and April 5 against the Philadelphia Union – also fall in this time period and have been postponed.
All tickets for postponed games will be honored when they are played later in the season. If you already have a ticket to a match, that existing ticket will grant admission to the rescheduled contest and no further action is needed.
