19-Year-old youth internationals of Argentina to join the Club ahead of 2020 MLS debut
MIAMI (July 26, 2019) — Thirty-two weeks shy of making its Major League Soccer debut, Inter Miami CF announces today it has signed young Argentine midfielder Matías Pellegrini and forward Julián Carranza. The 19-year-old players become the Club’s first-ever signings.
Pellegrini, a left winger from Magdalena, Argentina, joins Inter Miami CF from Estudiantes de La Plata via transfer as a Young Designated Player. He will remain on loan with Estudiantes through January 2020.
Carranza, a forward from Oncativo, Argentina, joins Inter Miami CF via transfer from Club Atlético Banfield, where he will remain on loan through January 2020.
“It’s important for us that we found young, exciting attacking players that are on the upside of their career and have the potential to be really good players in this league,” said Inter Miami CF Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “We will continue to build and add quality players that are the right fit for our Club. We started with youth, but we know it’s also important to have veteran players who come from both overseas and within the league to balance out the roster over time.”
Pellegrini joined Estudiantes Academy at the age of 11 before making his First Division debut in 2018, where he has scored three goals across 15 matches in addition to making two Copa Libertadores appearances. He has represented both the U-17 and U-20 Argentina national teams on the international stage.
Carranza, who moved to Buenos Aires at 13 to join Banfield’s Academy, is in his second season with the First Division where he has scored 10 goals across 30 matches. He has trained with the U-17 Argentina National Team and made an appearance in the U-17 South American Championship 2017.
“Both Julián and Matías showed us they really wanted to take the next step of their career with Inter Miami CF. We liked that Pellegrini can play inside and out wide, has very good aerobic capacity and can cover a lot of ground, while Julián is a very grounded player with an impressive work rate. He’s the player that strives to score goals and is very good in the box,” added McDonough.
