Academy Update: U-16s Cap Off Stellar Participation at International Tournament in Guadeloupe

The Inter Miami CF Academy presented by Baptist Health recently was in action at the  Tournoi International U-16 in Guadeloupe, which took place in the Caribbean island from May 1 to 4. The international competition featured 16 top youth sides from around the world and saw our U-16s finish as runners up after the team’s stellar performance throughout the tournament.

Group Stage 

Inter Miami featured in Group C alongside Brazilian side Fluminense and Guadeloupean teams Pôle Espoirs Cerfa and Cap Excellence. In the first group stage game, our Academy’s U-16 team earned a resounding 5-0 win over Cap Excellence.

Our Academy’s U-16 side then earned a 1-1 draw against Pôle Espoirs Cerfa, before closing out the group stage fixtures with an important 1-0 win over Fluminense. With a record of two wins and a draw, inter Miami topped Group C and advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Knockout Rounds 

Following the group stage, our U-16s kicked off the knockout rounds with a 3-0 win over CARL in quarterfinals. The semifinals then presented a second matchup for the team against Fluminense in the tournament, with Inter Miami clinching its place in the final after earning the win in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation.

In the final, our Academy’s U-16 team narrowly fell 1-0 against French outfit Olympique Lyonnais and finished the tournament as runners up after the team’s strong performances throughout the competition.
