Lee Nguyen was the third player selected by Inter Miami CF in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft. The midfielder was selected from Los Angeles FC where he played for two seasons.
"I have known Lee for a long time," said Inter Miami CF Sporting Director Paul McDonough. "He's a really good guy and a technical player the fans here are going to love. He's going to really fit in with what we're trying to build here. It's really important to have him. He's super excited."
Nguyen is a 33-year-old midfielder who thrives in possession and impacts the game with his creative dribbling and passing. In 239 MLS regular season appearances with the New England Revolution and Los Angeles FC he tallied 54 goals and 58 assists.
The 5-foot-8 midfielder has represented the U.S. Men’s National Team on nine occasions, including two in the 2007 Copa América.
The MLS veteran began his professional career with PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, the highest division in the Netherlands. Prior to joining Eindhoven, he attended Indiana University where he spent one season. In that season he earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors.
