Four international roster slots remaining as Carranza, Chapman, Pellegrini obtain U.S. Green Cards

Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed Colombian U-23 national team center back Andrés Reyes on a year-long loan with an option to exercise a permanent transfer. The 20-year-old defender joins the Club from Atlético Nacional in Colombia’s first division, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

Reyes will occupy an international roster slot in the Club’s inaugural squad. Inter Miami currently has four international roster slots remaining, as Julián Carranza, Jay Chapman and Matías Pellegrini recently obtained their U.S. Green Cards. Nicolás Figal, Christian Makoun and Lewis Morgan occupy the other international roster slots.

“Andrés is a sturdy defensive presence with a lot of potential,” said Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “We continue adding a few more quality pieces to our roster during the final stretch of preseason, and believe in Andres we have a solid, quick and precise defender in the backline.”

Reyes made his senior debut in 2018 as a member of Atlético Nacional and went on to make 19 league appearances for the club. He was also a member of the 2018 Copa Colombia title-winning side and 2018 Apertura runners-up.

The center back has also represented Colombian youth teams on the international stage, making 11 appearances for the U-20 side and two appearances for the U-23 side. Reyes led the U-20s’ backline in seven of their nine matches at the 2019 U-20 South American Championship, helping the Cafeteros qualify for the 2019 U-20 World Cup by only conceding three goals. Reyes went on to appear in four of the team’s five 2019 U-20 World Cup matches.

Most recently, Reyes was a member of the Colombia U-23 team that reached the semifinals of the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic tournament in January and February 2020. He also appeared in two international friendlies for the team, playing in matches against Argentina in September 2019 and Japan in November 2019.

Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami will play all of its home matches at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale starting with the first-ever match on Saturday, March 14, against the LA Galaxy. Located off Commercial Boulevard and I-95, the stadium stands adjacent to the Club’s new 50,000 square foot state of the art training facility, which includes seven professional fields. The facility will be the home to all Inter Miami teams including MLS, USL League One and the Academy. It will also host international clubs, tournaments and local high school sporting events.
