RECAP: “Team Heron White” and Pizarro winners of Inter Miami CF FIFA 20 Tournament for Stream Aid 2020

Pizarro Winner Stream Aid 2020

MIAMI, Fla. (March 28, 2020) - It was a thrilling virtual encounter as fans worldwide gathered on the Club’s Twitch channel to stream Inter Miami’s FIFA 20 tournament as part of Twitch’s Stream Aid 2020, a special event bringing the worlds of gaming, music and sports together to benefit the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund during 12 hours of entertainment.

Inter Miami players Rodolfo Pizarro and Lewis Morgan, “Team Heron White,” battled against Julián Carranza and Lee Nguyen, “Team RosaNegra”, in a FIFA 20 tournament narrated by ESPN’s Fernando Palomo, who is also the official voice of EA Sports FIFA. Five qualifying matches and a title-deciding match took place, with the winner of each match collecting points for both their teams and their individual accounts.

In the end, it was a two-horse race as Pizarro and Morgan dominated the qualifying matches, leading them to be the contestants in the final match. 23-year-old Morgan proved to be the comeback king, rallying in both of his qualifying matches after going down 1-0 and eventually beating Carranza 1-2 and Pizarro 1-4. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Pizarro overcame his initial loss against Morgan by recovering with victories of 1-3 against Nguyen and 1-2 against Carranza.

The final was a nerve wracking contest, with Pizarro taking a comfortable 0-2 lead in the first half before Morgan once again showed his resilience by leveling the match 2-2 in the second half to force a one-half replay. In the replay, Pizarro took an early 0-1 lead before Morgan surprised viewers with a goal in the dying minutes, but there was no comeback as the Mexican midfielder scored again to win the match 1-2 to claim the individual title. It wasn’t all bad news for Morgan though, as he was a member of team tournament winners “Team Heron White.”

Pizarro’s qualifying matchups against Morgan and Nguyen were streamed on Twitch’s home page as part of Stream Aid 2020, with more than 121,000 viewers.
