Inter Miami CF, Mourning Family Foundation and Captain Morgan Launch Meal Distribution Event in Overtown

Mourning Family Foundation Meal Distribution Event

Captain Morgan pledged $55K to Mourning Family Foundation to support COVID-19 relief efforts through MLS Unites program

Like many communities across the globe, South Florida is currently facing a series of unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of MLS Unites, a league-wide platform designed to educate communities and elevate heroic efforts during the pandemic, Inter Miami CF partner Captain Morgan and the Mourning Family Foundation will host a meal distribution event for 400 families in Overtown and its surrounding communities on Thursday, June 4th.

Prepared by healthy gourmet meal delivery and large-scale food manufacturer DeliverLean,  the meals will be distributed at Gibson Park (401 NW 12th Street, Miami, FL 33136) from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET.

Inter Miami and partner Captain Morgan previously made a donation of $55,000 to the Mourning Family Foundation to support the efforts of founders Tracy and Alonzo Mourning, an NBA Hall-of-Famer, of providing daily meals to hundreds of families in our neighborhoods.

“We are deeply grateful for the generosity we are receiving from Captain Morgan and Inter Miami CF. This support allows us to stretch our efforts and serve even more individuals in our communities. We can’t do this work alone; this is a global issue that can only be addressed if we unite and work together every step of the way to support each other,” said Alonzo Mourning.

The Mourning Family Foundation is a nonprofit organization focusing on youth development through advocacy and education.

In addition to Thursday’s meal distribution in Overtown, Inter Miami and DeliverLean will host its last food drive at Inter Miami CF Stadium this Wednesday from 10 a.m. ET to 2 p.m. ET.  The group supported the food drive efforts for six weeks, distributing over 2,000 healthy meal bags in Fort Lauderdale.
