Inter Miami is one of 11 teams based in the state of Florida joining the new MLS platform, alongside three local youth soccer clubs.
This week, MLS also announced the opening of the application process for a limited number of clubs to apply for an opportunity to compete in the newly created elite youth development platform’s inaugural 2020-21 season to maintain a competition platform that provides geographic balance.
In the Academy’s first year in existence, the Club brought home its first two titles; the U-12 team won the Disney Boys Soccer Showcase in November 2019 and the Armada Invitational in January 2020. Inter Miami CF Academy teams also participated in top-level tournaments, including the USSDA Winter Cup where the U-17 team’s results qualified them as one of the top 8 teams in the country, and the ICC Futures tournament where the U-14 team competed against top teams from around the world, including FC Barcelona and Juventus FC.
Four Inter Miami CF Academy players received youth national team call-ups last season, two with the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team, one with the U.S. U-15 Boys’ National Team and one with Colombia’s U-15 Youth National Team.
Inter Miami launched its Academy in September 2019. These players, who are among the most talented soccer athletes from all over South Florida, were chosen to sign with the Academy and positioned to have the best opportunities to continue advancing through the highest ranks of the sport at no cost to the players and families.
The teams are expected to start preseason in August 2020 with the regular season starting in September. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
