Inter Miami CF to Kick Off 2021 Season with New Facebook and Instagram AR Filter

While sports have found ways to come back in 2020-21, the reality of opening the season at a reduced capacity continues to alter the sporting experience. Because of this, Inter Miami CF has teamed up with Facebook to create an emotion-filled AR filter bringing DRV PNK Stadium inside fans’ homes as the Club gets ready to kick off its second Major League Soccer season on April 18.

Fans can activate the AR Filter by going to their Facebook or Instagram accounts, turning on their camera and selecting the Inter Miami Fans effect to begin recording.

“Bringing the AR filters and in-stadium experiences to fans is a concept we are very proud of. This was a great collaboration between Inter Miami, David Beckham and Facebook’s digital teams to develop personalized avatars representing our core supporters groups,” said Mike Ridley, Inter Miami CF SVP of Brand & Marketing. “There is nothing quite like being part of the roar of the crowd to spur your team on to victory, and we hope this activation sparks joy amongst fans who cannot be with us in person. We want everyone inside and outside of our stadium to feel connected to the team on matchday.”

“Fútbol (soccer) is the biggest sport in the world and a huge part of its joy is the community and shared moments that spring up around it. At FB & IG we are always looking to discover new ways for people to connect and we’re excited to create opportunities to partner with public figures and clubs around the world and do just that. Through our ongoing collaboration with both David Beckham and Inter Miami, we’ve been able to level-up the fan experience using our AR technology and bring fans from all around the world into the stadium. We look forward to seeing global communities get behind their team and celebrate the 2021 MLS season together, even when apart,” said Becky Lockett, Strategic Partner Manager, Public Figures, Facebook

Inter Miami will face the LA Galaxy 13 months after its scheduled home debut in 2020 against the team was postponed due to the pandemic. The anticipated match will kick off at 3 p.m. ET in front of a limited capacity of 8,000. It will be nationally televised on ABC and ESPN Deportes.
