Inter Miami defender Ryan Shawcross made his first appearance for the team in their 2-1 away victory over the Philadelphia Union on April 24. With his debut in the books, Shawcross began to look ahead to what the Club can accomplish, and what it will take from the team.

“It’s up to us as a team to decide what we are about. I think everyone involved with the club has shown that we’re a big family and we’ve got a great network of fans, we’ve obviously got fantastic owners. What everyone else thinks is irrelevant, it’s what we do and what we do on the pitch and how successful we are, and how successful we are off the pitch. Everything I’ve seen so far has been very impressive. I think the most important thing is to concentrate on yourself and you’ll reap the results going forward from that,” said Shawcross. “We’ve shown in the previous two games what we can do. The first game ended in disappointment but in the second game, how well we came back and the team spirit we showed. I want to be a part of something of that sort of calibre.”

Coming over from Stoke City, Shawcross discussed why he decided to join Inter Miami as well as his commitment to the program.

“There are so many different reasons I came out here, obviously the David Beckham factor, the Inter Miami factor, how big of a club it is and how it’s going places. There’s many factors but obviously the manager being one and his knowledge of me and my knowledge of him has helped the situation massively,” said Shawcross

“Inter Miami offered me this amazing opportunity to come over here, so as soon as that came up I jumped on it and I’ve shown my commitment to it by bringing my whole family over. I’ve signed for two years and I’m loving every moment of it. It’s such a great club and I’m looking forward to seeing us going forward.”

Despite the dramatic change of scenery, Shawcross is certainly enjoying life in the sunshine state.

“Loving the weather, it’s a massive change from the cold wet Stoke. Loving the facilities, loving being in and around the team. It’s a great environment to be involved in and the Club is going places. I’m very pleased to be here and delighted to be involved in it.”
