Edison Azcona and Inter Miami CF II and Academy defender Israel Boatwright have been called up to the Dominican Republic’s U-20 Men’s National Team for its two upcoming friendly matches against Colombia. The duo will join the U-20 team for its matches in the Dominican Republic at Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium.

The first match against Colombia takes place on Saturday, Sept. 24 and the second match will be played on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Both matches will be played in the Dominican Republic. Boatwright made his professional debut for Inter Miami CF II in April this year. Similarly, Boatwright was a star for the Inter Miami U-17 team in the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup, and earned Best XI honors for his efforts as the team pushed through to the semifinals.

Azcona, meanwhile, has made two appearances for the Dominican Republic senior team in 2021, and has featured previously for the U-23 and U-20 teams. Azcona has most recently featured for Inter Miami CF II before joining El Paso Locomotive FC on loan; he was recalled from his loan earlier this week.

Both Azcona and Boatwright made history with the Dominican Republic U-20 team at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship. The duo helped lead the team to a run to the final of the tournament, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup U20 in Indonesia 2023 and the 2024 Summer Olympics in the process, both firsts in the country’s history.

Both players are among a list of current and former Inter Miami CF Academy players to be called up to a national team; Noah Allen, Benjamin Cremaschi, Tyler Austin, Justin Ellis, Santiago Morales, Felipe Valencia, Logan Batiste and Tyler Hall have all been called up previously, among others.
