Called Up: Inter Miami CF II Forward Cameron Johnson Called Up to Costa Rica U-23 National Team for Upcoming Tournaments in June

Inter Miami CF II forward Cameron Johnson has been called up to the Costa Rican U-23 National Team for its upcoming participation in the Toulon Tournament in France, taking place from June 5 to 18, and the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games that will be held from June 23 to July 8 in El Salvador. 

Costa Rica will be competing in Group A alongside France, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela at the Toulon Tournament. First, Costa Rica and Johnson will face off against Venezuela U-23 at the Stade de Lattre de Tassigny Stadium on June 5 at 8 a.m. ET. From there, on June 8, Costa Rica will match up against France U-21 at the Stade D'Honneur Mallemort Stadium at 11:30 a.m. ET, and on June 11, the team will round up group stage play taking on the Saudi Arabia U-23 team at the Stade de Lattre de Tassigny Stadium at 8 a.m. ET. 

Subsequently, the team will be competing in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador, where Costa Rica was drawn in Group B alongside Honduras, Guatemala, Jamaica and Colombia. 

This will be Johnson’s first experience on the international arena since joining the Club. The attacker has previously represented both Costa Rica and the United States at youth level, most recently playing for Costa Rica’s U-20 side in 2022. Notably, Johnson helped the team win the 2022 U-20 UNCAF Tournament in April 2022.

At the club level, Johnson signed his first professional contract back in 2022 with Argentine side Club Atlético Lanús and joined Inter Miami II in April 2023. He has registered five appearances and one goal in MLS NEXT Pro action to date, with the goal coming in his debut in the team’s road game against Columbus Crew 2 on April 30.
