Inter Miami CF defender Victor Fung has been called up to the Canada U-17 national team for the Copa México de Naciones Sub-17. The camp will run from Dec. 10 to 20 in Mexico and serve as preparation for the Concacaf U-17 Men’s Championship and FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Players born in 2006 or later are eligible for the camp. Fung is one of only five players in the 24-man squad born in 2007 or later.

Canada will play two matches during the window, first facing Costa Rica on Thursday, Dec. 15, and then taking on Mexico on Monday, Dec. 19. Both matches will be played at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento de la Federación Mexicana de Fútbol.

Fung, 15, was a member of the Inter Miami CF Academy U-15 team that became national champions last season, winning the MLS NEXT Cup. He also helped the team win its MLS NEXT division in the regular season, reach the GA Cup Round of 16, and won its group at both MLS NEXT Flex and MLS NEXT Fest.

Fung is among a growing list of current and former Inter Miami CF Academy players to be called up to a national team, including: Nicholas Almeida, Noah Allen, Tyler Austin, Edison Azcona, Logan Batiste, Israel Boatwright, Benjamin Cremaschi, Justin Ellis, Tyler Hall, Santiago Morales, and Felipe Valencia, among others.
