UPDATE: The Canada-Guatemala match originally scheduled to take place in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 22 has been cancelled. Canada is no longer able to participate in the match after they cancelled their pre-competition Men’s National Team training camp in response to the ongoing pandemic. All tickets that have been purchased will be refunded in full in the same form of payment. The Honduras-Colombia match will take place on Jan. 16 as scheduled.

DRV PNK Stadium today announced a second international friendly to begin the new year. The match, organized by Red Dog Sports and Entertainment, will see Canada take on Guatemala on January 22. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. ET.

The international friendly will serve as preparation for Canada for the final stage of qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Canada currently sits on top of the Concacaf table and is looking to make it to their first World Cup since 1986. Canada will face Honduras, the United States (sold out), and El Salvador in the next fixtures of the qualifiers in late January and the beginning of February.

“Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team looks forward to facing Guatemala as part of our crucial preparations for the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers,” said Dr. Nick Bontis, Canada Soccer President.

"We're very happy to start a new era with a new coach by going to Florida for this international friendly against Canada. We hope to see all of our fans there on January 22nd," said Gerardo Paiz, President of the Guatemalan Soccer Federation.

Despite not allowing a single goal during World Cup qualifying, Guatemala was eliminated from competing in Qatar 2022 and did not make it to the final round of Concacaf qualifying.
