Inter Miami is gearing up for its third encounter with CF Montréal this season, this time playing at home at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday, July 31.

Following the Club’s inspired draw against the 2020 Supporters’ Shield winning Philadelphia Union last week, head coach Phil Neville shared his belief that the team is taking the necessary steps to get its season back on track.

“I think the feeling from the weekend’s game is that we are a lot more positive than we were in the previous month. And we’ve seen it as a little bit of a baby step forward in terms of the attitude and performance. Ultimately, it’s always a small brick layed in the foundation and we need to keep building on that,” said Neville

Defender Nicolás Figal also believes that the team can take the morale boost from the Philadelphia matchup and use it as the catalyst for the team to flip its fortunes.

“The mood definitely got much better because we confronted a rival, a hard-fought game after coming from a hard loss. Truthfully, we want this to be the beginning, the beginning of a new start for us to believe and for Inter Miami to reach its objectives which is to fight for the championship,” said Figal

Midfielder Federico Higuaín also made sure to praise Inter Miami’s loyal fanbase and assured them that the team will do its best to give them the performance they deserve.

“They [the fans] are perhaps the most important things in fútbol…We will do [our] best in order to compete, we know we represent a club who wants to be important in the league. And yes we are very excited for the next game. Hopefully we can give all our fans a good performance and three points,” said Higuaín.

Figal is also looking forward to playing at home against Montréal, stating that the supporters make playing for Inter Miami an exciting experience.

“For me, I think it’s very important to play at home again. Personally, I feel very comfortable when we play in front of our people, in front of my family, I like it a lot so we’re very excited to play this game this weekend against Montréal.”

When it comes to Saturday’s matchup, Neville expects the players to continue with the strong mentality they demonstrated last week against Philadelphia.

“I want to see the fight, I want to see the togetherness, and I want to see the attitude we saw against Philadelphia and if we get that I will be really happy, so baby steps forward.”
