A look back: The Huddle Vol. 2 with Sergio Reguilón

The Huddle delivered a lively second live-chat session between our beloved fans and Spanish left back Sergio Reguilón.

On one of his idols during his childhood:

“When I was a kid, I really looked up to Roberto Carlos; fortunately, he’s a good friend of mine now. Whenever he comes to Miami, we always grab a coffee… I loved the way he played, the way he competed, and the way he struck the ball—he was a role model for me when I was young.”

On playing at left back:

“I started as a left winger in Real Madrid's youth academy, then I moved down to left back. When I was at Real Madrid Castilla, I also played one game as a center back, but my true position has always been left back.”

On his experience playing at Nu Stadium:

“I was lucky enough to be among the first to play there, and it feels great—it’s a top-tier stadium. It feels like home, with the fans very close by, and personally, I love it.”

On becoming a fútbol player and if he plans on coaching after his playing career:

“Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be a professional player, and thanks to a mix of luck and hard work, I’ve achieved that… To be honest, I don’t plan on becoming a coach. I’d like to just be at home, relaxing with my family in Madrid. I left home at a very young age, so I’d like to spend a few years there with my loved ones.”

Advice for young players:

“One piece of advice I can offer is that those who work the hardest and show the most consistency go further than those who rely solely on talent and just coast along. I’ve had teammates with incredible talent who lacked the consistency and work ethic to reach the elite level; meanwhile, many others, who made great sacrifices and had a strong drive to improve, reached that level ahead of those who were naturally gifted.”

On other sports he enjoys besides fútbol:

“Here in Miami, whenever I can, I like to watch the NBA. Sometimes I might go to a Dolphins game. I also enjoy watching Carlos Alcaraz in tennis, and I watch golf when there’s a major tournament.”
