Inter Miami forward Gonzalo Higuaín has been named as a starter in the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi for Week 16 of the 2021 season. He earned the award following his stellar performance at home against CF Montréal at the DRV PNK Stadium, in which he scored a brace to give Inter Miami the victory.
This is the Argentine’s second time featuring in the Team of the Week this season, with him first appearing in Week 5, where he scored a brace as Inter Miami came out victorious away against FC Cincinnati at the TQL Stadium. That performance resulted in Higuaín being named the Player of the Week as well.
In 2021 so far, Higuaín leads the team in goals with seven while also supplying two assists.
Higuaín is the fifth Inter Miami player to feature in the MLS Team of the Week this season: defender Nicolás Figal and midfielder Federico Higuaín were selected in for Week 2 after the the team’s 1-2 victory over the Philadelphia Union on April 24, defender Ryan Shawcross was part of the starting XI for Week 3 after playing a crucial role in securing the team’s first clean sheet of the season in the scoreless draw against Nashville on May 2 and winger Lewis Morgan was named to the bench for Week 4 after netting the equalizing goal against Atlanta United to tie the match 1-1 on May 9.
