Inter Miami CF officially kicked off its 2022 MLS preseason with the clubās first training session of the year. The team's preseason preparation, which will include six scrimmages and six weeks of training, marks the beginning of the clubās third Major League Soccer (MLS) season. Multiple new faces graced the pitch during the teamās first preseason training session - including George Acosta, Mo Adams, ClĆ©ment Diop, Bryce Duke, Ariel Lassiter, AimĆ© Mabika, Christopher McVey, Ryan Sailor and Jairo Quinteros - previewing a first look at the new 2022 squad.
Following training, Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson, head coach Phil Neville and forward Gonzalo HiguaĆn shared their excitement to welcome fans, the Heartbeat of the club, back to DRV PNK Stadium for an open training session on Feb. 5.
āSuper excited to have fans back. Feb. 5 we are going to have an open training session for all our fans to come and be part of it. Itās important for all our players to have that connection with our fans,ā remarked Henderson. āWe feel the energy in the stadium, we feel our atmosphere is very unique here in Miami and we want our fans to be part of it. Every signing we have with a new player, we talk about our fans, our connection with the fans.ā
For Neville, the start of a new season was a chance to reflect on the impact the fans have on the team as he looks forward to welcoming them back in February.
āI think they are the heart and soul of this fĆŗtbol clubā¦The biggest thing was that last season they stuck with us through thick and thin, they supported us. They never stopped singing, chanting, supporting us throughout the whole season in difficult moments and in good moments. The true test of a set of supporters in a sports organization is when things arenāt going well, how they behave and what they are like. I think what they proved and showed last season is that this set of supporters are here for the long haul and they understand everything that we are doing. Their understanding and support for the players and for myself and for the rest of the organization, I think makes me really proud to be associated with that group of supporters. Every day from the end of the season till now, part of my main focus is to give those supporters some success because I think they deserve it,ā highlighted Neville.Ā
HiguaĆn, meanwhile, looked forward to the open training session, citing the importance of feeling the energy of Inter Miami supporters again.
āI think it's very important to have fans close to us. Itās a great decision to have them here for an open training session and I hope they can enjoy it. For us, itās very important to have a connection between the team and the fans, we need to support each other, we want to make sure they are happy and we can give them the joy they deserve in order for us to reach our goals and I think itās a great decision to welcome them here soon,ā commented HiguaĆn.Ā
