The 2021 MLS season is upon, with Inter Miami set to kick off its second season this Sunday, April 18 at 3 p.m. ET with a match against the LA Galaxy at DRV PNK Stadium. Ahead of the match, Gonzalo Higuaín and Lewis Morgan expressed their expectations for the season.

“We're very happy, excited and looking forward to the start of the season. I personally felt we had a long preseason and I think we got great players that have brought a lot of quality to the squad. I have a very strong mentality and I am confident it can be a great year for the history of this Club because I think we can even aim to win the league,” said Higuaín.

“I sincerely think that we can aspire to win MLS. That is the objective. For me it is clear, and I believe that the rest of the team believes it as well. There was a lot of effort put in from our sporting directive, brought in great players, they brought in an important coach and we had an already established base. We have a great base and a very good possibility to fight for the MLS title. The objective shouldn’t be the playoffs, the objective has to be to win MLS because that is how great teams think and this team has to be great. I believe that is the mentality and we have everything to be able to fight for it. If it happens or not, those are other factors, but I believe that the conviction has to be to win MLS.”

Higuaín and Morgan each shared how they will seek to personally contribute to Inter Miami’s success this upcoming season.

“I want to be a positive leader for this team. I want to be a leader that helps the club reach its goals. My mentality for the season is really to help the team and keep playing how I have played my entire life. I didn’t come here to be one more player, I didn’t come here for vacation, I came here to take the Club to its highest level and help make it a great success in its second year,” expressed Higuaín.

“Being able to create an assist and score goals in the final third and work with the manager and coaching staff that I know will get the best out of me in that regard. Every single year I need to improve and this year is no different, so I’m looking forward to hopefully getting my numbers up this year and helping this club go forward,” concluded Morgan.
