Colombian-American First Team Player Alex Shaw Joins the Initiative, Inspiring the Next Generation
The power of fútbol was on full display today as the Inter Miami CF community came together to support Colombia following the devastating earthquakes impacting communities across the country in August.
Hosted by the Inter Miami CF Foundation, today’s youth clinic at the Florida Blue Training Center brought together 120 young players, alongside their families and members of the South Florida community for an afternoon centered on the power of unity. Inter Miami CF First Team Colombian-American player Alex Shaw, 18, joined the clinic, creating a special opportunity for young fans to learn from and be inspired.
“This initiative is very close to me because it brings together two very important parts of who I am: Inter Miami CF, the club I’m proud to represent as a player, and Colombia, which is such an important part of my identity as a Colombian-American from Miami,” said Shaw. “Being able to bring those two parts of my life together through an initiative like this, and having my family here to support it, makes it even more special to me.”
The Colombian community represents a significant part of Inter Miami CF’s fanbase, both in South Florida and across Colombia, making today’s initiative especially meaningful for the Club and its broader community. Through the clinic, 120 participants came together for a unique Inter Miami CF Academy experience. The $100 registration included participation in the clinic, an Inter Miami CF shirt and entry to the Academy’s U17 and U20 matches. Inter Miami CF donated the fields, coaches and shirts for the initiative, ensuring that all registration fees and donations will be provided to Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) to support earthquake relief efforts in Colombia. The effort builds on Inter Miami CF’s previous collaboration with GEM to provide aid to communities affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.
For Inter Miami CF, the day was a reflection of fútbol’s ability to bring people together around something bigger than the game. Through the Foundation, Academy, players and fans, the Club helped channel the passion of its community into support for people and communities facing a difficult moment.
