Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed three players - forward Leo Afonso and midfielders Pep Casas and Ricardo Montenegro - on short-term agreements from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team Inter Miami CF II. Afonso, Casas and Montenegro will be available for tomorrow’s MLS match against the New York Red Bulls at 2 p.m. ET at Red Bull Arena.

This will be the first time the three players have been signed on short-term agreements by the Club’s First Team.

Afonso, 22, is a former Inter Miami CF Academy product who joined the MLS NEXT Pro ranks after returning back to the Club following his collegiate career at the University of Virginia. Afonso was the 32nd second round overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft 2024.

Casas, 23, was also drafted by Inter Miami in the MLS SuperDraft 2024. The Spanish midfielder previously featured for the University of North Carolina Wilmington before being selected in the third round of the draft by Inter Miami.

Montenegro, 19, is an Inter Miami Academy standout, who signed a professional MLS NEXT Pro contract ahead of the 2024 season following a strong season with the team in 2023 on an amateur contract.

Per MLS rules, the short-term agreements allow clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
