Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed Paraguayan national team midfielder Matías Rojas as a free agent to a contract running through the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with Club options for 2025 and 2026. Rojas, an attacking midfielder who can play centrally or wide, bolsters the team after most recently playing for Brazilian Serie A side Corinthians.

“We’re pleased to bring in attacking midfielder Matías Rojas. He is a skillful and experienced player at both the club and national team levels whose versatility we believe will be an asset for the team. We think this addition helps strengthen our squad as we aim to compete for titles after a strong start of the MLS season,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.

“I’m happy, joining a spectacular Club like Inter Miami is a dream come true. I’m excited to compete and help my teammates achieve the team’s objectives,” said Rojas.

Rojas, 28, joins the Club after acquiring vast experience across some of the top teams in several leagues in South America, as well as with the Paraguayan national team, having played for Cerro Porteño (2014-2018) in Paraguay, Racing Club de Avellaneda (2019-23) in Argentina, and Corinthians (2023) in Brazil, among others. In all, he’s racked up over 200 professional appearances to date in his career, including 22 in the prestigious CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores, registering four goals in the process, and 12 in the CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana, recording an assist. Notably, Rojas won a Paraguayan First Division title with Cerro Porteño and two Trofeo de Campeones de la Liga Profesional titles with Racing Club and has tallied 39 goals and 18 assists throughout his career. The attacking midfielder also represented his country in the 2019 CONMEBOL Copa América and in FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Asunción, Paraguay native began his career developing in the youth ranks at Cerro Porteño before making his professional debut with the first team in March of 2014. Rojas subsequently went on to make 35 appearances for the Cerro Porteño from 2014 to 2016, helping the team win a Paraguayan First Division title in 2015 and registering two goals in the process before being transferred on loan twice and eventually transferring permanently in 2019.

Following his first seasons as a professional, Rojas was loaned to Club Atlético Lanús in the Argentine First Division. He went on to make 18 appearances and register a goal and two assists in his year and half at the club from 2017 to 2018. The midfielder was subsequently loaned out to fellow Argentine First Division side Defensa y Justicia in the summer of 2018. In his year with Defensa y Justicia from 2018 to 2019, Rojas made 27 appearances across all competitions and scored 10 goals.

Following his positive impact during his second stint on loan, Rojas remained in Argentina as he was transferred permanently to Racing Club in the summer of 2019. Between 2019 and 2023 he became a mainstay for the team and went on to total 126 appearances across all competitions, while helping Racing win two Trofeo de Campeones de la Liga Profesional titles (2019 and 2022) and registering 26 goals and 13 assists. Rojas coincided with new Inter Miami CF teammate Tomás Avilés during his time with Racing, with the pair sharing the pitch a total eight times.

Rojas most recently played for Corinthians after transferring to the Brazilian side in the summer of 2023. In all, he made 30 appearances during his stint in Brazil, registering three assists.
