International Duty: Azcona, Lowe, Mabika, Quinteros, Yedlin, Inter Miami II Trio Feature for their National Teams

Over the international break, several Inter Miami CF players featured for their national teams. Edison Azcona, Damion Lowe, Aimé Mabika, Jairo Quinteros, DeAndre Yedlin and joined the Dominican Republic, Jamaican, Zambian, Bolivian and United States respectively. Lowe, Quinteros and Yedlin competed in FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, while Mabika appeared in an international friendly and Azcona partook in a training camp during the international window. Additionally, Inter Miami CF II duo Modesto Méndez and Dairon Reyes represented the club with the Cuban national team, while forward Shanyder Borgelin featured for Haiti.

Edison Azcona

Attacker Azcona joined the Dominican Republic national team for a week-long training camp in Murcia, Spain during the break.

Damion Lowe

Lowe played the entire match during Jamaica’s 1-1 draw against El Salvador on March 24. He did not feature in the Reggae Boyz’ trip to BMO Field in Toronto, Canada on March 27. In the team’s final qualifying match against Honduras on March 30, Lowe started in central defense, and saw through the game’s entirety as Jamaica cruised to a 2-1 victory.

Jairo Quinteros

Defender Quinteros came on as a substitute in the 74th minute in the loss against Colombia at Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla on March 24. Quinteros then played the full 90 minutes as the team fell against Brazil at Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz, Bolivia on March 30.

DeAndre Yedlin

Yedlin played 80 minutes for the USMNT at Estadio Azteca against Mexico on March 24. The result ended in a goalless tie, during which Yedlin was booked once. He missed the next match on March 27 due to yellow card accumulation as the U.S. Men’s National Team romped to a 5-1 victory over Panama. In the team’s final qualifying game playing on the road against Costa Rica on March 30, Yedlin played the first 61 minutes as the U.S. clinched a spot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup despite falling 2-0..

Aimé Mabika

Centerback Mabika joined the Zambian national team for a training camp, and also made his debut for the national team, playing 90 minutes in a friendly against Congo on March 25 in which the team earned a 3-1 victory.

Modesto Méndez and Dairon Reyes

Inter Miami II players Méndez and Reyes also featured for the Cuban national team over two friendly matches. In their first match on March 24, both Méndez and Reyes were named to the starting XI; Reyes played the entire match and Méndez was subbed off in the 81st minute as Cuba lost 1-0 to Guatemala. Both players started once again for Cuba as the team faced Belize on March 27, with Reyes being substituted off in the 86th minute after a solid shift in the team’s 3-0 victory.

Shanyder Borgelin

Inter Miami CF II forward Borgelin was called up to represent Haiti as the team took on Guatemala Sunday, March 27 at DRV PNK Stadium. He came on as a substitute late in the second half on his home field, but Haiti fell 2-1 in the match.
