International Duty Roundup: Academy Players on National Team Duty in March

Academy call ups

The Inter Miami CF Academy continued to make its mark on the global stage this March, with several players earning call-ups to represent their respective national teams. Competing in international friendlies and regional identification camps, the Club’s rising talents gained invaluable experience while showcasing their development beyond the Academy level.

Here’s a closer look at the Academy players who represented their countries during the March international window:

Leandro Padilla - Honduras Senior National Team

Leandro Padilla reached a significant milestone in his young career during this window. The 16-year-old midfielder received his first call-up to the Honduran senior national team, joining the squad in Leganés, Spain for an international friendly against Peru.

While Padilla did not feature in the 2-2 draw, his inclusion at the senior level marks a major achievement both personally and for the Inter Miami CF Academy, highlighting the pathway from the Academy to the international stage.

Kendry Villafuerte - Honduras U-20

Kendry Villafuerte joined the Honduran U-20 national team for a friendly at Estadio Carlos Miranda in Comayagua, Honduras.

The defender featured in the second half of the match, contributing to a dominant 7-1 victory and continuing his development with valuable international minutes.

Sean Gormley - Peru U-17

Sean Gormley took part in Peru’s U-17 national team camp as the squad prepared for the upcoming South American U-17 Championship.

Gormley started twice in friendlies against Bolivia and also saw action in matches against Club Universitario and Sporting Boys II of Peru’s Liga 3, gaining important match experience in a competitive environment.

Sebastian Bennett, Angel Diaz Jr., Nicolas Javier, Sebastian Mesa, Owen Rodier – U.S. South Region Camp

A group of five Academy players—goalkeeper Owen Rodier, defender Nicolas Javier, midfielders Angel Diaz Jr. and Sebastian Mesa, and forward Sebastian Bennett—were selected for the U.S. Under-14 Boys’ Talent Identification Program.

Held from March 12–16 at McCurry Park in Fayetteville, Georgia, the camp brought together 80 of the top players in the South region, all born in 2012, as part of U.S. Soccer’s ongoing talent identification pathway.
