Inter Miami will look to extend its four-game home unbeaten streak when they face off against Toronto FC on Saturday, Aug. 21, at DRV PNK Stadium.

One player that head coach Phil Neville believes has embodied the team’s never-say-die mentality is defender Christian Makoun, whose stellar performances have played an important part in the team’s success as of late.

“He’s been outstanding... His composure is getting better and better, his decision making is getting better and better. The growth I still think that he’s got is a lot. He’s a young person who takes all the information on, he wants to learn, but he does it in a real humble way… He’s becoming a really, really important member of the starting XI.”

Makoun attributes his form to the confidence and trust that Neville and the Club have given him throughout the season.

“I think everything starts with the confidence they have given me, they believed in me and they worked with me in the right way. I am also thankful to them for that. I’ve been willing to grow and improve and learn, and I think that’s a key part of why things have gone well,” said Makoun.

At only 21 years old, Makoun still has a long career ahead of him and he is always aiming to reach new heights for both himself and the team.

“This year I have confidence, I’ve worked very hard and I always believed that my moment would come. Thank God I can say that I’ve played a good amount of minutes, that I am playing well, but I know that this isn’t my limit. I want to strive for more, I want to improve, I want to keep growing. I am a young player, I have a long career ahead of me, God willing. I have to keep working. With the confidence they have given me, I am on the right track. I am very happy and I will continue working hard.”

With his confidence and performances steadily improving each and every game, Makoun is certain that he can only get better.

“There are no limits for me and I will continue working hard to be a better player and better person.”
