MATCH PREVIEW: Fort Lauderdale CF to Visit New England Revolution II

Fort Lauderdale CF will travel north for its first matchup with New England Revolution II on Friday, Oct. 9. The match at Gillette Stadium will kick off at 7 p.m. ET and air live on ESPN+.

“It’s going to be really interesting. [New England] is a team that had their struggles in the first large portion of the season and just lately has really come on,” said manager Jason Kreis. “It’s going to be another really difficult affair. It’s an away game on turf, so it presents a lot of nice challenges.”

Fort Lauderdale CF is coming off of a challenging road loss to reigning USL League One champions North Texas SC. The match saw 16-year-old left back Noah Allen and 18-year-old versatile midfielder Jason Bucknor, both of whom are Inter Miami CF Academy products, enter the starting XI for the first time. It was Noah’s professional debut, while Bucknor had previously made eight substitute appearances.

For his recent performances, midfielder Eduardo Sosa has been nominated for USL League One Player of the Month for September. At the close of fan voting (which accounts for 60% of the poll), Sosa led the race, receiving 43% of the vote. The remaining 40% of the poll was voted on by the USL Technical Committee, and the results will be announced tomorrow, Oct. 8.

New England Revolution II, the USL affiliate of MLS’ New England Revolution, currently sits ninth in the league table. The team has compiled a record of four wins, two draws and six losses in 2020 and has been led by Brazilian midfielder Nicolas Firmino, who tops the team’s scoring chart with three goals.

New England will enter the match in a strong run of form, having earned three consecutive victories, including a 0-4 road win over the Richmond Kickers in the team’s last match.
