MATCH PREVIEW: Inter Miami CF Set for Leagues Cup Semifinals Action Against Philadelphia Union On Tuesday

Inter Miami CF is set to carry on with 2023 Leagues Cup action this Tuesday, Aug. 15 when it takes on the Philadelphia Union on the road in the semifinals of the inaugural edition of the competition. The match at Subaru Park will get underway at 7 p.m. ET.

Impressive 2023 Leagues Cup Form 

Inter Miami has been in fine form during the 2023 Leagues Cup, winning its five matches and securing two clean sheets to this point.

The team most recently knocked out Charlotte FC in quarterfinals with a convincing 4-0 win in front of a sold out crowd at DRV PNK Stadium featuring goals joint team-leading scorers Lionel Messi and Josef Martínez, as well as a goal from winger Robert Taylor.

Attackers Hitting the Mark

The team's attackers have been scoring for fun in Leagues Cup action, with Inter Miami being the club with the mosts goals in the tournament with 17 thus far. With his goal against Charlotte in quarterfinals, Messi took his tally with the Club to eight goals in five matches, scoring in every match he’s played for Inter Miami in the process.

Additionally, Martínez, who's the team's joint-leading scorer with alongside Messi with eight, registered his second Leagues Cup goal in the match, while Taylor scored for the fourth time in the competition.

Scouting the Philadelphia Union

The Pennsylvania-based side will host Inter Miami after knocking out LIGA MX side Querétaro F.C. with a last-gasp goal in added time in the team's 2-1 win in quarterfinals.

Midfielder Dániel Gazdag has been the Union's leader in Leagues Cup, with the Hungarian registering four goals in his four appearances.

What's Next?

Inter Miami is just two wins away from clinching its first trophy in Club history. If the team wins on Tuesday at Subaru Park, it would face the winner of the semifinals matchup between Nashville SC and LIGA MX's C.F. Monterrey in the Leagues Cup final on Saturday, Aug. 19.

However, in case of a loss, Inter Miami will play a third place match set to be played on Saturday as well. The venue for both possible matches depend on the results of the semifinals fixtures.
