2023 Leagues Cup at DRV PNK Stadium

Inter Miami is set to host Cruz Azul this Friday for what will be the team’s first group stage match in the inaugural edition of the Leagues Cup, a new North American soccer tournament in which MLS and LIGA MX will pause their respective league seasons from July 21 to August 19 to determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. All 47 first division clubs in Canada, Mexico and the US will compete in the World Cup-style, official Concacaf tournament. Inter Miami has been placed in group South 3 alongside Cruz Azul and fellow MLS side Atlanta United for the Leagues Cup.

Inter Miami Newest Signings

Inter Miami announced the signings of seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, and FIFA World Cup champion Lionel Messi and one-time World Cup champion, and legendary Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets this past weekend. Both players participated in training alongside their new teammates throughout the week and will be available for selection for the first time on Friday for the Leagues Cup’s opening match, as both players await their anticipated Club debut.

Scouting Cruz Azul

The 2023 Liga MX Apertura recently kicked off, with Cruz Azul most recently falling 2-1 against Club Tijuana in the team's most recent league match.

Right winger Uriel Antuna and midfielders Carlos Rodríguez and Ignacio Rivero are players to watch out for the upcoming match. Both Antuna and Rodríguez recently returned from international duty after winning the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup with Mexico, while Rivero leads the team with a goal at the start of the season.

What’s Next?

After Friday’s fixture, Inter Miami will play another League Cup game at DRV PNK Stadium on Tuesday, July 25, when it takes on Atlanta United in the team’s second and final group stage match. The top two teams from the South 3 group will then advance to the Round of 32 of the competition.
