Winning Start in Leagues Cup and Star Debuts

Inter Miami is set to host Atlanta United for what will be the team’s second group stage fixture in the inaugural edition of the Leagues Cup, following its 1-2 victory over Cruz Azul last Friday night.

The matchup against Cruz Azul saw seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2022 World Cup champion Lionel Messi make his Inter Miami debut. The Argentine superstar was subbed on in the 54th minute and found the back of the net with a late free kick winner in the 94th minute.

Additionally, the match also presented the Club debut of legendary Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets. The former captain of FC Barcelona and 2010 World Cup champion entered the game along with Messi in the second half, and helped make key passes in signature style to help lead Miami to a win.

Reunions for Tata and Martínez

Tuesday's fixture will present reunions for head coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino and forward Josef Martínez with their former side. Martino previously served as the head coach of Atlanta United from 2016 to 2018, during which time he led his former club to an MLS Cup title in 2018.

Martínez, meanwhile, spent six seasons in Atlanta, was named MLS MVP in 2018, and was a key part of their MLS Cup winning campaign. The Venezuelan goalscorer scored a staggering total of 98 goals during his run with Atlanta.
