Leagues Cup Winning-Streak

Inter Miami will aim to extend its Leagues Cup winning-streak when the team faces Charlotte for the first time in 2023 in the quarterfinals.

Inter Miami earned its place among the last eight remaining teams in the competition by claiming four consecutive wins, defeating LIGA MX side Cruz Azul 1-2 and Atlanta United 4-0 at DRV PNK Stadium in the group stage, before knocking out rivals Orlando City in a convincing 3-1 win at home and clinching its Leagues Cup quarterfinals berth on the road with a penalty shootout win over FC Dallas on Sunday night, in a round of 16 match featuring a staggering eight goals in regulation.

Messi-Alba Connection Revived, Academy Product Cremaschi Shines

Inter Miami's round of 16 match in Dallas was highlighted by Lionel Messi’s third consecutive brace, including a stunning 85th minute free kick equalizer, a goal from second-half substitute Benjamin Cremaschi with one of his first touches, and Jordi Alba's first two assists for the Club.

The match gave fans a first taste of what the connection between Messi and left-back Alba can produce, with Alba assisting Messi in the sixth minute of the proceedings to register his first assist for the team and setting up the Argentinian star for the first time after assisting him 23 times during their time as FC Barcelona players.

Alba then went on to tally his second assist for the Club in what was just his first start when he set up Cremaschi's goal in the 65th minute just moments after the Inter Miami Academy product entered the match. The goal was the second for Cremaschi with the First Team, who then went on to become the hero of the night by scoring the final penalty to clinch the clinching a 5-4 in the shootout.

Scouting Charlotte FC

Charlotte FC will come to South Florida after defeating Houston Dynamo FC 2-1 in the round of 16 on Monday, Aug. 7. Prior to eliminating Houston, the North Carolina-based side knocked out Cruz Azul in penalties in the round of 32 and defeated FC Dallas and Necaxa in the group stage.

What's Next?

If Inter Miami knocks out Charlotte, the team would advance to the Leagues Cup 2023 semifinals and take on the winner of the quarterfinals fixture between the Philadelphia Union and Querétaro F.C.
