Debuts and Return to the Starting XI in Charlotte

Inter Miami will aim to advance to the Quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after narrowly falling 1-0 on the road to Charlotte FC on Saturday. Despite the result, it was a memorable match for 2022 MLS SuperDraft selection Ryan Sailor, who made his MLS debut by starting at center back and playing the full 90 minutes. Additionally, winger Indiana Vassilev, who was reacquired by the club on loan last week, slotted into the starting XI and goalkeeper Drake Callender registered his second start of the season, replacing the injured Nick Marsman in goal.

Historic U.S. Open Cup Returns to South Florida

Tuesday will see the club host its first-ever Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fixture at DRV PNK Stadium when Inter Miami takes on USL League One side the South Georgia Tormenta. Inter Miami earned its spot in the Round of 32 of the 2022 edition of the U.S. Open Cup by winning 0-1 on the road against Miami FC in the Third Round on April 19. A goal by forward Leonardo Campana led the team to victory in the club’s first-ever appearance in the single-elimination competition.

Being a single-elimination competition, if Inter Miami wins, it advances to the next round, if it falls, it would knock the team out. If the team wins, the opponent, date and venue for its next match would be revealed in the Quarterfinals draw set to take place May 12. The winner of the 2022 U.S. Open Cup earns an automatic spot in the next edition of the Concacaf Champions League, a shiny trophy to put on display and prize money.

Previous Cup Winners at Inter Miami

Four Inter Miami players have previously tasted glory by winning the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup: DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC, 2014), Victor Ulloa (FC Dallas, 2016) Mo Adams (Atlanta United FC, 2019), Brek Shea (Atlanta United FC, 2019).

In addition, CSO and Sporting Director Chris Henderson led a successful Seattle Sounders side to four U.S. Open Cup titles (2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014) during his tenure as Technical Director of the organization, including the 2014 edition in which Yedlin featured on the team's roster.

Familiar Faces

Tuesday's meeting will be a blast from the past for versatile attacker Vassilev, who was amongst the South Georgia Tormenta's academy ranks from 2013 to 2015.
