Inter Miami CF will travel to Washington, D.C. to play its second match in Major League Soccer (MLS) this Saturday, March 7. The team, which traveled to Los Angeles to face Los Angeles FC (LAFC) in its debut match last weekend, will face D.C. United at Audi Field. The match will be nationally televised live at 3:30 p.m. ET on Univision/TUDN and on the Twitter accounts @MLS and @TUDNUSA.

“We expect to find a good opponent. We’ve analyzed them. It’s a team that works well together as a collective and they will surely make it difficult for us,” said Head Coach Diego Alonso. “They’re in need of points since they weren’t able to win their last game playing at home and they will surely be seeking to get the three points.”

“For us, after our performance in our last match, we need to continue building on the things we’re doing right so we can improve,” added Alonso. “It’s a good opportunity for us to continue perfecting our style of play and improving the team.”

Inter Miami began its inaugural season on Sunday, March 1, in a match against reigning Supporters’ Shield champions LAFC. The visitors fought valiantly but left with a 1-0 loss despite finishing with seven shots on target compared to LAFC’s nine.

Inter Miami lined up for that match with Luis Robles at goalkeeper, Alvas Powell, Román Torres, Nicolás Figal and Ben Sweat in defense, Victor Ulloa, Will Trapp, Rodolfo Pizarro, Lewis Morgan and Matías Pellegrini in midfield, and Robbie Robinson at forward. Team captain Robles impressed in the match, making eight saves, earning MLS Team of the Week honors.

The hosts for this weekend’s upcoming match, D.C. United, are coming off of a 1-2 home loss to the Colorado Rapids. They opened the scoring in that match through a Russell Canouse header, but allowed a 67th minute equalizer and 92nd minute winner from the Rapids.

D.C. had a strong 2019 MLS campaign, finishing as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference and qualifying for the playoffs. The team had the strongest defense in the conference, allowing just 38 goals. This was second-best in the league to LAFC who allowed 37 goals in 2019. D.C. maintains many of the core pieces that helped them establish a strong defensive record, with the same backline starting their 2020 season opener – Canouse, Frédéric Brillant, Steve Birnbaum and Joseph Mora – as their 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs match.

Despite the departure of the team’s leading goal scorer in 2019 Wayne Rooney, D.C. has reinforced their roster with a couple of key acquisitions. Prior to the season the team acquired Julian Gressel in a trade with Atlanta United. Gressel registered six goals and 12 assists for Atlanta in 2019 and recorded an assist in his first official game with D.C. last weekend. The team also signed 25-year-old Peruvian international Edison Flores as a Designated Player in January 2020. The midfielder also started the team’s first match of the 2020 MLS season.

On Saturday March 7, 2020, while the team is in Washington D.C the Club will be hosting two special watch parties in South Florida. The events, which will begin at noon, will take place at The Wharf in both its Miami and Fort Lauderdale locations. The game will be played on large 14-foot screens while Inter Miami activations, live music, cocktails and eats will be available to those who attend. The events provide an opportunity for fans to come together and share their passion for Inter Miami as they celebrate the team’s first season in MLS.

Single-game tickets to Inter Miami CF’s historic home debut on March 14 against the LA Galaxy have sold out. A limited number of single-game tickets remain for Inter Miami’s second home game on March 21 against the New York Red Bulls and third home game on April 5 against the Philadelphia Union are now on sale, visiting https://www.intermiamicf.com/en/tickets/single.

Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami will play all of its home matches at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Located off Commercial Boulevard and I-95, the stadium stands adjacent to the Club’s new 50,000 square foot state of the art training facility, which includes seven professional fields. The facility will be the home to all Inter Miami teams, including its First Team in MLS, Fort Lauderdale CF in USL League One and the youth development Academy. It will also host international clubs, tournaments and local high school sporting events.
