Inter Miami is set to hit the road this week as the club prepares for its longest road trip of the MLS season, featuring a two-match week including a first-ever matchup with San Jose and concluding with a trip to Montreal. Head coach Phil Neville shared his thoughts on how this road trip can boost team chemistry and spirit.

“It’s a really good opportunity for these guys who literally love each other, they love spending time together. They’re with each other all the time around this facility, they can spend more time, they can get closer and really forge a spirit of togetherness that these road trips should be used for,” said Neville looking forward to the upcoming trip. “I think that’s one of the things I’ve loved about working in MLS is that these road trips foster [unity] and give you experiences that are there for you for the rest of your life. So we are looking forward to that.”

Neville also pointed to the opportunity that is in front of the team, following a season-high four scored goals against FC Cincinnati and praised the form of MLS Player of the Week Gonzalo Higuaín following his hat trick.

“The one thing I’ll say over the last three or four games is that we’ve been scoring goals, and we’ve got a goal scorer that’s probably the most in-form goal scorer in the league now that looks like he’s gonna score with every chance that he gets,” he added.

Defender Chris McVey echoed the sentiments of his head coach, expressing that he feels it’s an honor to share the pitch with Higuaín.

“His touch, and his shots, and finishing and everything, it’s clinical and he’s a winner, he’s played in the top leagues in the world. It’s an honor to just get to play with him,” noted McVey.

McVey continued by saying the team is always looking at ways it could have been better.

“We’re all heading in the same direction. We can’t focus on ‘we should’ve had three points there.’ We just have to go into every game as if we’re going to get three points and try to win,” said McVey.
