Ulloa: “We have a great opportunity tomorrow to turn the page“

Victor Ulloa comments before Atlanta United match on Sept. 2

Inter Miami will be back in MLS regular season action on the road against Atlanta United on Wednesday, Sept. 2, just three days after the team’s outing against Nashville SC. The team is ready to bounce back and put in a strong performance to get a positive result in the 7 p.m. ET matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium following Inter Miami’s closely-contested defeat in its previous game

“Despite the quick turnaround, we’ve worked to adjust the details. But, for me, the most important thing is that the team knows when and why it played poorly. When you know why you won, repeat it. When you know why you lost, you understand what you’re doing wrong and it’s easier to correct,” said manager Diego Alonso. “I think that’s the process that we’re in and the team is improving, putting together performances like against Orlando, in which I thought the team played really well. We have to repeat that. To do that, we have to repeat the patterns from that match. Then we have to work more on the mental aspect, on the focus that we have to have, on the plan for each match, and then bring it to fruition.”

“We know that we face a team that’s hurt. We have the hope that we can have a great match and take the three points,” added the Uruguayan coach.

Defender Andrés Reyes and midfielder Victor Ulloa shared their coach’s desire to turn things around, emphasizing that hard work and intensity will be key throughout Inter Miami’s tough matchup against Atlanta.

“We’ve been preparing well. We know that we can no longer have much margin for error. We’ve been working hard every day to get the three points. That’s what we have in mind, to work hard and go out to win, which is what we need,” stated Reyes.

“We know that Atlanta is at home, they’re a good team and it’s going to be a competitive game. We need to match the intensity they bring on, especially early on in the game, in order to try to implement our game plan and get a positive result,” explained Ulloa. “We have a great team, we have a great group of guys, we work hard every day and now it’s about making results happen. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to turn the page and to get on winning ways. Atlanta has been a very good team these past few years; we have to take advantage that they’re in a bad moment and come out of this on the right side.”

Additionally, Ulloa further analyzed the team’s previous performance and what the team needs to improve on the offensive end in the upcoming game to overcome its opponents.

“In Nashville, it’s crazy the opportunities that we created, but we were missing that final pass, that final touch, the most important one. It’s always an aspect that we want to improve on.”

“We know that Atlanta is a team that likes to play out from the back, they’re a team that likes to keep the ball and take a lot of risks. So, we have to go in there and try to press them and hopefully get the ball back in good spots where we can attack quickly at the goal. If we are able to maintain that high press and get the ball quickly, we’ll have a lot of opportunities in order to work on finishing and getting more goals,” he concluded.
