Inter Miami defender DeAndre Yedlin has come into the team in 2022 and become the heart of the group. The U.S. Men’s National Team veteran has returned to MLS after about seven years away and reclaimed his place as one of the league’s best right backs. With fan voting set to close this Friday, July 1 at 11:59 p.m. PT (July 2 at 2:59 a.m. ET), we will make the case for Yedlin to shine alongside the league’s other stars at the 2022 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target in Minnesota this August.

Shining at Both Ends

The 28-year-old fullback has been productive for Inter Miami at both ends of the pitch, marauding down the right flank at the right moments for the team. He has stretched the field with his pace, making constant overlapping runs down the wing; Yedlin currently ranks in the top 25 in MLS in total overlapping runs per Second Spectrum.

His attacking output extends beyond the width he provides, as he has even chipped in with end product. Yedlin has notched two assists thus far in 2022, tied for third on Inter Miami in the category dispute his defensive position. The fullback has also contributed 12 key passes this season, most among Inter Miami defenders and tied for 15th among all MLS defenders.

Defensively, Yedlin has been sound, consistently stopping transition opportunities for opponents with his recovery speed. He has also shown his impressive positioning and instinct, tallying 19 interceptions this season, second-most on Inter Miami.

Setting the Tone

Yedlin’s impact on the team has been apparent since he first joined the group, when he expressed his desire to be a leader for his many young teammates. That desire has come to fruition, with the defender serving as a secondary captain, donning the armband whenever Gregore has been unavailable, and establishing new team traditions.

He has also led by example as an ever-present fixture in the team’s lineup, appearing in all 16 MLS matches, starting 15 of them. Yedlin has also played 1,377 MLS minutes this season, second on Inter Miami.

We encourage all our fans to cast their votes for Yedlin while they still can! After the first returns of All-Star fan voting, the defender was in the top 10 among right backs.

All fans can vote on or via the MLS App, and every fan has the unique opportunity to share their picks on social media.
