MATCH PREVIEW: Fort Lauderdale CF to Face Tormenta FC on Saturday in First Away Match

Blaine Ferri vs. FC Tucson 7/25/20

Fort Lauderdale CF will travel to Statesboro to play its first away match against the South Georgia Tormenta FC on Saturday, August 8, at 8 p.m. ET. The match at Erk Russell Park will be the team’s third in USL League One and will air on ESPN+.

“For us it’s about the development of players. We have some really bright prospects and young up-and-coming guys that we think can take the next step. I think we’ve had some really positive performances by a lot of the players,” said Manager Jason Kreis. “There were some really good moments in the first match and even more good moments in the second match so we will continue to build off of that.”

Fort Lauderdale CF played its first two matches in team history at home at Inter Miami CF Stadium. This match will mark the first time the team travels for an away match. Last Saturday’s match against the Richmond Kickers was postponed.

The team is coming off of a hard fought 1-2 loss to FC Tucson on July 25 in which the team led into the 87th minute despite a two-man disadvantage for the entire second half. Through the first two matches, Fort Lauderdale has handed professional debuts to nine players, including seven Inter Miami CF Academy products.

In the 2019 season, South Georgia finished sixth in the 10-team table, missing out on the playoffs. The team put together a record of nine wins, 10 draws and nine losses in the 2019 USL League One Season. Midfielder Marco Micaletto led the team with eight goals in 27 appearances.

In 2020, South Georgia has recorded one win, one loss and two draws. The team opened the season with successive draws to Chattanooga Red Wolves SC and the Richmond Kickers, then won its next match over Orlando City B and most recently lost to Greenville Triumph SC. For Week 3, however, three South Georgia players - Stefan Mueller, Nil Vinyals and Luca Mayr - were named to the USL League One Team of the Week. Vinyals, meanwhile, was named Player of the Week.
