MATCH PREVIEW: Fort Lauderdale CF to Host Toronto FC II on Wednesday

Shaan Hundal Training 6.10.21

Fort Lauderdale CF will host Toronto FC II at DRV PNK Stadium on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The match, which will air live on ESPN+, will mark a return to action for the team after last featuring on Saturday, June 5.

“I think it’s going to be a good game,” said head coach Darren Powell. “Toronto has some really good young players and we’re looking forward to a hard-fought soccer match.”

Fort Lauderdale will look to pick up where it left off in its last match over a week ago, when it defeated North Carolina FC 1-2 on the road. The match saw Mitch Curry score his second goal in as many games, his first two starts of the season, and Edison Azcona score a stoppage time winner, which was voted USL League One Goal of the Week.

The team’s performances in its previous two matches saw three players named to the League One Team of the Week for Week 9; George Acosta, Brain Rosales and Luis Zamudio were selected, giving Fort Lauderdale the most representatives on the team.

Wednesday’s match will mark the first official meeting between Fort Lauderdale and Toronto FC II as the sides did not meet in 2020.

Toronto will enter the match after a 1-0 road loss to South Georgia Tormenta FC on Sunday. Thus far in 2021, Toronto has compiled a record of one win, three draws and three losses.

Dylan Castanheira Joins on Loan

Inter Miami First Team player Dylan Castangeira has returned to Fort Lauderdale CF on loan for the match and will be available for selection. The goalkeeper featured for the team in 2020, making 11 appearances, before earning a contract with the First Team. He will join Inter Miami teammates George Acosta and Josh Penn on the Fort Lauderdale CF roster for the match.
