The Inter Miami CF Second Team Roster Unveiled Ahead of 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Season
Inter Miami CF II begins their 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season on Sunday, March 17 with the Club’s home opener against NYCFC II at Chase Stadium at 3 p.m. ET. Inter Miami CF II is entering its fifth season as Inter Miami CF’s second team and third season competing in MLS NEXT Pro. The Club, coached by Federico Higuaín, unveiled the 19-man roster ahead of the opening match of their 2024 campaign.
Inter Miami CF II Roster Breakdown
Inter Miami CF II’s roster features 19 players; eight are signed to professional MLS NEXT Pro contracts, while the remaining 11 are on amateur contracts. Of the 19 players, 14 are either returning from last year’s squad or have been promoted through the Club’s Academy. Two new players have joined on professional contracts.
Notably, the returning players on MLS Next Pro contracts include Ricardo Montenegro, Bryan Destin, Owen Finnerty, Nyk Sessock and Dairon Reyes.
The team will also feature 11 players on amateur contracts from the Inter Miami CF Academy, including Dylan Mendez, Cesar Abadia-Reda, Samuel Basabe, Santiago Garcia, Jack Pymm, Derrek Martinez, Tye Barton, Brett Kaminski, Marcus Steinhaeuser, Alejandro Flores, and Victor Fung.
New Additions
The roster is rounded out by the two new professional signings. Spanish star, Pep Cases, is Inter Miami CF II’s newest addition. Cases was among the 87 players to be drafted in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft after previously featuring for the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Cases joins recently signed forward Ryan Carmichael, who was drafted from Hofstra University as a first round pick, 24th overall in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.
Academy to MLS NEXT Pro
Former Inter Miami CF Academy player, Leo Afonso joined the MLS NEXT Pro ranks after returning back to Inter Miami CF from the University of Virginia. Afonso was the 32nd second round overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. Meanwhile, Inter Miami Academy standout, Ricardo Montenegro, recently made the jump to an MLS NEXT Pro contract ahead of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.
