MATCH PREVIEW: Fort Lauderdale CF to Visit Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday

Venton Evans Training 5.21.21

Fort Lauderdale CF will visit Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday, May 22 at the CHI Memorial Stadium in Tennessee. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN+.

“We felt we needed to create more chances and be more ruthless in the final phase of the game and I think on the weekend you certainly saw that, but there were still things we know as a group we can get better at,” said head coach Darren Powell. “I expect a highly competitive game this weekend. Chattanooga is opening their season at home so I’m sure they’ll create a really good atmosphere. It’ll be a good test for a young team, away on the road at a new place we haven’t visited before.”

Last week’s fixture saw Fort Lauderdale earn an emphatic 5-1 home victory over FC Tucson. In the match, Abel Caputo, Christian Lue Young, and George Acosta, all scored their first goals of the 2021 season.

The outstanding team performance also resulted in both Venton Evans and George Acosta being named to the USL League One Team of the Week. Acosta was also dubbed Player of the Week following his goal and two assists against Tucson.

Fort Lauderdale will look to continue in this form when they visit Chattanooga. This week’s matchup will be the second encounter between the teams, as Fort Lauderdale drew 1-1 with Red Wolves SC at DRV PNK Stadium in 2020.

Chattanooga heads into this weekend following a 2-2 comeback draw away to the New England Revolution II. The Red Wolves hold a record of one win and one draw so far in the 2021 USL League One season. Midfielder Angel Aspana is their current top goalscorer with two goals. Last year, they finished in fifth place in League One, with six wins, four draws, and five losses.

Josh Penn Returns on Loan

Inter Miami First Team player Josh Penn has returned to Fort Lauderdale CF on loan for the match and will be available for selection. The winger previously featured for the team on May 7 and will join Inter Miami teammates George Acosta and Drake Callender.

Harvey Neville Cleared to Play
