MATCH PREVIEW: Fort Lauderdale CF to Visit North Texas SC

MATCH PREVIEW: Fort Lauderdale CF @ North Texas SC

Fort Lauderdale CF will travel to Arlington, Texas, for a rematch with reigning USL League One champions North Texas SC. The match at Globe Life Park will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. ET and air live on ESPN+.

Fort Lauderdale will seek another positive result against North Texas, after claiming a 3-2 win at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Aug. 19. The team was led to victory by a goal from Felipe Valencia, a brace from USL League One’s second-highest scorer Ricky Lopez-Espin and two assists from Eduardo Sosa. Valencia’s goal also made history, making him the youngest ever goalscorer at any USL level at 15 years, five months, and 18 days.

For his recent performances, Sosa has been nominated for USL League One Player of the Month for September. Fans can vote for the midfielder at USLLeagueOne.com through Monday, Oct. 5 at 12 p.m. ET. Results will be announced on Thursday, Oct. 8.

In Fort Lauderdale’s last match, the team fell 2-3 against Union Omaga in a closely-contested clash. In the match, 15-year-old winger Valencia scored his second goal of the season, while midfielder Sosa scored his second goal in as many games to register his second of the season.

North Texas SC, an affiliate of FC Dallas, currently sits ninth in the league table. The team has compiled a record of two wins, five draws and three losses in 2020 and has been led by forwards Ronaldo Damus and Benjamin Redzic, who have scored three goals each.

The team enjoyed a successful 2019 season, finishing atop the USL League One regular season table and going on to win the league title in just the first year of existence for the team. They finished the regular season with a record of 17 wins, five draws and six losses en route to the playoffs, where they won both their matches without conceding a goal.
