Seeking to Get Back to Winning Ways

Inter Miami will seek to get back to winning ways over the weekend after its club-record four match winning streak was snapped by 2-0 loss on the road against the New England Revolution in the team’s last fixture. Prior to visiting Gillette Stadium, Inter Miami had defeated the Revs 3-2 at home, the Seattle Sounders 0-1 on the road, Miami FC 0-1 in the third round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Atlanta United 2-1 at DRV PNK Stadium.

First Official Clash Against Charlotte

This weekend’s matchup at Bank of America Stadium will be the first official one in club history between the sides. Inter Miami and Charlotte FC previously faced each other in the Breeze Airways Carolina Challenge Cup preseason tournament back in February, with the club coming out on top 2-1 with goals from forwards Leonardo Campana and Gonzalo Higuaín, while also clinching the competition’s title with the victory as well. Overall, Inter Miami will be taking on Charlotte, franchise playing its inaugural MLS campaign in 2022, twice this regular season, with the second meeting between the sides scheduled for July 16 at DRV PNK Stadium.

Familiar Faces

The match may also present a series of reunions. Most notably, defender Christian Makoun may face his former teammates after being an Inter Miami player for two seasons (2020 and 2021). Overall, Makoun made 30 appearances and scored two goals for Inter Miami.

Aditionally, Inter Miami attacker Campana may face his Ecuadorian counterparts Jordy Alcívar and Alan Franco in the match, both who were his teammates on different Ecuadorian national team categories. Campana and Alcívar totalled 12 matches as teammates for their country's U-20 and U-23 national teams, while the striker and Franco shared the pitch six times for Ecuador's U-23 side.

Lastly, Inter Miami's Kieran Gibbs may once again face Charlotte FC captain Christian Fuchs, who he faced twice in the Premier League during his time with Arsenal while Fuchs played for Leicester CIty.

Scouting Charlotte FC

Charlotte will enter the weekend’s matchup after falling 2-1 on the road against Orlando City SC in its past match. Overall in the team’s inaugural MLS campaign thus far, Charlotte has recorded 10 points from three wins, six losses and a draw. Polish striker Karol Swiderski, who was signed from Greek side PAOK FC in January prior to the season kicking off, is the team’s leader with four goals and an assist this campaign.
