Career Summary

Leonardo Campana initially joined Inter Miami CF on loan from the Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022 before being signed permanently in January, 2023. Since joining Inter Miami CF, Leo played a vital role in the team’s 2022 campaign and has delivered incredible moments throughout the season. Campana opened his scoring account against Austin FC, and then went on to score the first hat trick in Inter Miami CF history in a thrilling 3-2 win against the New England Revolution, earning him MLS Player of the Week honors for Week 6 of the 2022 Season. Campana continued to find important goals for the Herons, scoring decisive goals that secured key points as the team aimed to clinch a playoff spot for the second time in its short history. Campana was the team’s second highest scorer during the 2022 season, finishing with 11 goals and 2 assists over 1,592 minutes and 26 appearances. 

A standout for the Ecuadorian National Youth teams, Campana started garnering attention when the Ecuadorian U-20 Team won the 2019 South American U-20 Championship; Campana scored six goals in nine games to lead the line for the eventual winners. The striker has also represented Ecuador’s senior side on various occasions.

Leo comes from a family with a long tradition of sporting excellence. His father, Pablo Campana was a professional tennis player who represented Ecuador in the 1996 Olympics, and is now Minister of Commerce for the Ecuadorian government; his great-grandfather Gabriel, won six Ecuadorian league winners’ medals in the 1920s and his grandfather, Isidro was the president of Barcelona Sporting Club for 15 years. Barcelona Sporting Club’s stadium in Guayaquil, where Leonardo played in his youth, is named after Isidro.
