With the upcoming release of EA Sports FIFA 21, Inter Miami CF will officially enter the virtual world of fútbol. The team will be playable across the game’s different game modes for the first time, allowing fans the opportunity to take control of their favorite squad.
With the game set to release on Oct. 6, EA Sports has begun to roll out player ratings for this year’s edition of the game. During a Sept. 16 livestream, the game revealed the ratings of a number of players across Major League Soccer. Inter Miami’s own Blaise Matuidi was featured on the stream as his rating was revealed.
Matuidi was handed a rating of 83 overall, the joint-highest rating in the league alongside reigning MVP Carlos Vela of LAFC. Inter Miami’s French World Cup winning midfielder was also given the highest defensive rating in the game.
“I am very happy because I think it [is similar to] me,” said Matuidi in reference to the ratings of his FIFA avatar. “I’m a good FIFA player, I play a lot.”
One by one each of Matuidi’s ratings for the major categories were revealed on the stream. First up, was his physicality rating of 79.
“That could be better,” he said with a laugh. “Physicality is one of my best attributes. In midfield, I have to do my best all the time to cover a lot of the pitch.”
Next, he was revealed to have a defending rating of 82, good for best in MLS.
“That’s great,” he said. “That’s my job, so I have to be the best.”
Following the reveals of his physicality and defending came his dribbling and passing attributes. Matuidi was handed a 78 dribbling rating and a 75 passing rating.
“Dribbling is higher for me,” he said wryly, followed by a succinct “no” in response to his passing rating. Matuidi suggested that he would be happy with a tradeoff of a slight increase to passing in exchange for a decrease in dribbling.
Last came his shooting and pace attributes, listed at 66 and 75 respectively, to round out his 83-overall rating.
“That is normal, I understand that,” he said to his shooting rating. “I haven’t scored a goal in a long time so I have to work hard on that...I have to do more work with my son.”
As for his pace, he was pleased enough to leave it at “that’s great”.
