Called Up: DeAndre Yedlin Called Up to USMNT for 2022 FIFA World Cup

Inter Miami CF defender DeAndre Yedlin has been called up to the United States Men’s National Team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, making history as the Club’s first-ever representative at a World Cup.

Yedlin was a leader for Inter Miami in his first season with the Club, wearing the captain’s armband on several occasions and helping guide the team to its most successful regular season yet, achieving a Club-record points total (48), win total (14), goals scored (47), and highest seeding (sixth) this season.

The defender was a mainstay for Inter Miami in 2022, featuring in all 34 regular season matches, starting 33 of them, and starting the team’s playoff outing. He finished second on the team in minutes played (2,986) and fourth on the team in assists (four) despite playing as a defender.

Yedlin was also named an MLS All-Star in 2022, marking the third time in his three MLS seasons that he earned the honor.

Yedlin’s inclusion on the roster makes him the only player in the squad with previous World Cup experience. The right back, now 29, featured for the USMNT at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil at just 20 years old, making three appearances, including one in the Round of 16.

To this point, Yedlin has amassed 75 total caps, the most of any player in the current squad, for the USMNT across several prominent competitions, including the World Cup, Concacaf Gold Cup, Concacaf Nations League, Copa América Centenario and more. In that time, the defender has tallied eight assists.

The United States will compete in Group B alongside Wales, England and Iran at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
