This afternoon Inter Miami got to know its opponents for the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament set to begin in Orlando, FL. on July 8.

Earlier today prior to the draw, it was announced that our Club was selected to join Group A of the MLS is Back Tournament, joining Orlando City SC as representatives in the six-team group as part of the league’s decision to restart the season in the state of Florida. The other four teams selected in the draw to complete the group are New York City FC, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire FC and Nashville SC. 

In Inter Miami’s first match since March 7, our boys will be facing off against Orlando City SC on July 8 in what will be the opening match of the tournament. Following the opener, Inter Miami will face Eastern Conference sides Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire. 

“I think this tournament is great, it’s a really unique concept. Watching the way the draws came out, there are some really interesting games and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said COO and Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “Philadelphia we saw in preseason, they’re very good. Chicago, they’re kind of rebuilding so we’re not really sure what’s going to happen there, but overall, really we just need to focus on us and what we’re doing.” 

Argentinian Designated Player Matías Pellegrini shared his enthusiasm as the team is ready to hit the ground running in the MLS is Back Tournament.

“We were drawn in a group with great teams, but we’re convinced in what we’re doing and what we’re aiming for. I trust this team and I’m sure we’re going to do well. We’ve been doing things correctly and we’re on the right track, we want to make history and win this for our fans,” stated Pellegrini. 

“I’m very excited to start the tournament, fully motivated,” he added.
